Rahul: Brakes applied to U.P. for 22 years

Attacking non-Congress governments, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that for 22 years the brakes had been applied on the development of UP. “You elected governments that made slogans from TV advertisements and framed policies in their drawing rooms.

They never reached out to the common man, never understood his needs, his problems. When I started reaching out to you, these leaders ridiculed me but that did not stop me,” he said at an election rally at Unnao.
Mr Gandhi said that in UP, when elections arrive, leaders come out to deliver speeches, make promises and then become CM, and then they shut their doors on the people who elected them.
“This has been happening for 22 years. The strength of this country lies not in parties and leaders but in the farmers, labourers and women who toil in adversity,” he said.
