Rahul begins campaign in TN
Taking a cue from his mother and party president Sonia Gandhi, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday stressed the need for continuance of the existing partnership between New Delhi and Tamil Nadu, which had helped the state’s economic progress.
Kickstarting his campaign for the ensuing polls in the state here at the grounds of Velalar College of Engineering and Technology, he said the state had received `1 lakh crores from the Centre in the past five years for development and “never before this amount of money was spent on Tamil Nadu”.
Assuring more money from the Centre, he reiterated that the economic development was made possible because of the partnership between the UPA in Delhi and the DPA in Tamil Nadu. “The partnership would not have been made possible but for the efforts taken by Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Kalaignar,” he said.
He touched upon local issues and his pet themes of youth in politics and empowerment of women.
