Rahman faces music over Dam999
Music maestro A.R. Rahman has unwittingly earned the ire of Tamilians by giving his best wishes for Sohan Roy’s film Dam999 in the Oscar race.
Tamil Nadu had banned the screening of the movie Dam999 across the state saying it was creating unnecessary scare that Mullaperiyar dam might collapse.
But Rahman, an Oscar winner himself, became thrilled after hearing the news that Dam999 was in the eligibility list of Academy Awards and three of its songs composed by Ouseppachan were also competing for a nomination in the best song category.
And all hell broke loose after he gave the film his best wishes. “Thanks for your betrayal for Tamil Nadu,” goes the caption of a photograph of Rahman doing its rounds in social networking sites. “Tamils don’t want you in Tamil Nadu anymore.”
“Rahman does not remember the past,” posted another angry netizen. “It was Tamils who gave him the platform to rise.”
Another netizen, Nikhil, tweeted angrily: “Rahman, were you blind to Mullaperiyar?”
Caught off-guard, Rahman tweeted on Friday night, “OMG!! Really didn’t know about the serious conflict b/w the two states Just one trip to LA and back and the whole story back home has changed”.
