Rahat leaves for Pak after paying a fine
Top Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan left for Pakistan late on Tuesday evening. He had earlier paid a fine of `15 lakhs before he was handed over travel documents. Rahat, who along with his manager Maroof was detained on February 13 after they were found in possession of $1.24 lakhs undeclared foreign currency, also addressed the media in Pakistan on Wednesday.
According to sources, Rahat boarded an Emirates flight to Lahore via Dubai on Tuesday evening. Rahat had reportedly collected his passport from the DRI office on Tuesday morning.
The DRI had earlier charged them under various provisions of the Customs Act and sent the matter for adjudication to the Customs. The Customs department had later imposed a penalty of `15 lakhs on each of them. As per the rules, no one can carry beyond $5,000 in cash and $5,000 in other instruments.
