Quid pro quo to Pak on 26/11 team
India has agreed “in principle” to allow a commission from Pakistan to question Mumbai witnesses of the 2008 terror attack, but a final view on their visit will be taken after Islamabad responds to a similar request put forth by New Delhi. Home minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday said that India has asked Pakistan to allow a team to question some people in that country suspected to be involved in the 26/11 Mumbai carnage.
“We have also sent them a request asking them if they would agree to a team from India to question the people who are suspects,” he said. We are awaiting an answer for the question that we have put forth, he said during his monthly press conference. To a question whether India will respond in a similar way if Pakistan turns down its request, Mr Chidambaram said, “It does not mean one way or the other. We will take a view once we get a final and firm answer.”
Mr Chidambaram said that the documentary evidence which Pakistan wanted from India will be provided to them in the next few days.
