The CBI, probing coalgate scam, will summon top officials of private companies, who were booked by the agency on September 4, for questioning next week.
The CBI on September 4 registered multiple FIRs against five companies for alleged criminal conspiracy to get coal blocks by allegedly fudging their net worth figures and misrepresentation of facts. The agency named 20 directors of the private companies and unknown government officials in its five FIRs filed in connection with the scam. “The agency has prepared a list of top officials of the private companies who will be questioned next week. The agency is likely to make some significant arrests in connection with the scam by the end of this week,” sources said.
The companies which have been booked by the CBI include: JLD Yavatmal Energy Limited-Nagpur, JAS Infrastructure Capital Private Limited (Kolkata), AMR Iron and Steel Ltd (Nagpur), Navbharat Power Private Limited (Hyderabad) and Vini Iron and Steel Udyog Limited (Kolkata).
“The agency sleuths are also planning to confront them with certain documents, which were recovered during recent searches, during questioning,” sources said. Probe by the agency has revealed that promoters of certain companies allegedly sold their stakes in an irregular manner after allocation of coal blocks, sources added.
Probe has further revealed that certain companies allegedly signed memorandum of understanding for small periods with number of companies and added their equity to project their sound financial status at the time of application for coal blocks, sources said. “Officials of the companies will be questioned in this regard also,” sources added.
