Punjab cops to reform drug addicts
Keeping in view the rising trend of drug addiction within the jails of Punjab, the state police has come out with an idea that any drug addict arrested in future would be first sent to a drug de-addiction centre and only after that would be sent behind bars to complete his sentence. All fresh entrants will be examined
The latest move is a brainchild of DGP, prisons, Mr Shashi Kant, who made startling revelations about use of drugs inside Punjab jails in the past. The revelations created a huge controversy as many influential people were named.
According to Mr Shashi Kant, the new entrants into the jails should be examined and treated accordingly. The state police is trying to implement sixteen point procedures for the jails as the NHRC guidelines.
