Punjab cops probe Tunda in ’09 case
A team of special officials of the Punjab police visited the Special Cell office of the Delhi police to question alleged LeT terrorist Abdul Karim Tunda in connection with a 2009 case in which the Punjab police recovered 10 kg explosive from a car.
A police source said the car was parked near a Dhaba in Amritsar. “As soon as someone would open or start the car, the bomb exploded. The plan was executed by one Ratandeep, a suspected Babbar Khalsa International terrorist. Ratandeep was being assisted by Tunda in this connection. Tunda procured explosive for Ratandeep. The Punjab police started investigation and found out that Ratandeep was the mastermind behind the incident. They conducted raids to nab him but Ratandeep fled to Nepal and then Pakistan,” said the police source.
The source said Tunda was not directly involved in the terrorist operation, he was only facilitating terrorist outfits. The police source said the terrorist outfits LeT, ISI and others who took help of Tunda did not tell him their plan of action.
During his stay in Pakistan, Tunda disclosed that he had met Indian Mujahideen’s operative Aamir Raza Khan and LeT operative, Azam Cheema, who masterminded the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, said the police. During the Commonwealth Games, Tunda was told to deliver explosives in India through his Bangladesh network.
The police official said Tunda was not aware of the 26/11 attack that rocked Mumbai.
He as told about the attack a day after the attack by LeT men.
