Punjab BJP may reshuffle its ministers
The BJP is likely to reshuffle its ministers in the Prakash Singh Badal-led government in Punjab. Two of its senior-most leaders in the state, who are also part of the SAD-BJP government, have been named in a bribery case. The party has also decided that its Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will continue at the post
despite a section of its state leaders gunning for his ouster. Mr Nishank will also play an important role in the campaigning for the Uttarakhand Assembly polls due for next year. These issues came up for discussion during the party’s core group meeting that took place on Wednesday at BJP chief Nitin Gadkari’s residence. With eyes on the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, the next national executive of the party is scheduled to be held in Lucknow, tentatively in the first week of next month.
Sources said the central leadership took serious note of the developments in Punjab and it was decided that to prevent further embarrassment, a reshuffle of its minister in the state Cabinet is a must. The BJP, which has taken a moral high ground on the corruption issue, was left in an awkward position after its leaders, were charged under a bribery case.
