Puma skin seized from parcel sent from US
The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) has seized the skin of a puma, an endangered species, shipped from the US as a rug, an official said Sunday.
The skin was sent through a US Postal Service parcel and was detected in Kolkata August 7.
"During a special operation, officials of the WCCB detected a parcel containing the full animal skin, which was shipped from the US as a rug. It is suspected to be of puma, an endangered species," WCCB Additional Director Rina Mitra said.
"Considering the modus operandi of smugglers, the WCCB is now emphasising on strict scrutiny of inland and foreign parcels," she said.
