Pujab Promotes 4,342 teachers In Single Day
It’s another matter that Punjab’s public education system is in shambles, but in a baffling decision which could even pass as a record of sorts, the state government promoted 4,342 teachers in a single day on Monday.
The state government has taken this rather unusual decision just when the election code of conduct is expected to be imposed anytime now.
The decision, according to education minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, has been taken to check stagnation in teaching staff of government schools.
Gloating over the decision, Mr Sekhwan described it as a “new record of promotions”. He believes that by promoting more than 4,000 school teachers in a single day the state government is working in its endeavour to “bring more efficiency in the education department”.
