‘Psycho-analysis on Modi needed’

SP spokesman Kamal Farooqui, criticising Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s “puppy” remark, said: “What does he (Modi) think, that Muslims are worse than even puppies? He does not have a heart for them. He should feel sorry... He should apologise.”

“He (Modi) should be ashamed for using such language,” the SP leader said, adding, “The earlier he apologises, the better it will be. Otherwise there will be dangerous consequences.”
Attacking the Gujarat CM, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat said, “The expression of regret just doesn’t come to Modi... There is something fundamentally wrong with what he is saying.” She said, “Modi has been justifying that genocide in different ways. Whether it is genocide, whether it is cold-blooded murder, whether it is in the name of encounter, whether it is hushing up those cases and trying to promote those who were involved in it from beginning to end... It is a governance that has in it certain components which are against the Constitution of India and against basic human principles.”
CPI leader D. Raja described Mr Modi’s comments as “desperate attempt to deceive people and hoodwink the Indian masses”.
Shivanand Tiwari, leader of the BJP’s long-time former ally JD(U), slammed Mr Modi and said “psycho-analysis should be done on him”. He added that it would be a “very dangerous situation if such a person becomes the country’s Prime Minister”.
Meanwhile, following Mr Modi’s comment that he was a “Hindu nationalist”, BJP’s alliance partner Shiv Sena has hailed him as the right choice to lead the NDA. Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said that his party believes that the nation’s leadership should be in the hands of a Hindutva leader.
“We welcome Mr Modi’s stand. It was our strong belief from the time of Balasaheb Thackarey that the nation’s leadership should be in the hands of a Hindutva leader. Mr Modi’s stand will benefit the NDA,” Mr Raut said.
Adding that Hindutva was “another name of nationalism”, Mr Raut said that the proponents of Hindutva are not against any religion.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
