Pro-Telangana activists hurl eggs at Jaipal Reddy in Hyderabad
In a major embarrassment for Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Jaipal Reddy, pro-Telangana activists hurled eggs at him during a public meeting in Hyderabad on Sunday.
According to reports, the activists, demanding the creation of a separate Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh, hurled eggs at Reddy to vent their ire on his perceived ‘failure’ to take up their cause at the national level.
In their bid to stop the commotion, the police scuffled with the activists and arrested several protestors.
The demand for the separate state of Telangana has seen violent protests and political power play, with over 300 people being killed between 1969 and 1972.
However, chances of an immediate resolution appear slim as most politicians are sharply divided within their own parties on the issue.
