Prez polls: BJP says not ready for V-P deal
The BJP-led NDA and the so-called federal front will have little role to play in the Presidential election without Mr Mulaym Singh Yadav, Ms Mamata Banerjee and Ms Mayawati.
While the anti-Congress regional parties in South, West Bengal, Orissa who are outside the NDA, do not want to ally with the BJP for obvious reasons. On the other hand the latter too is not keen on helping the Congress in this election irrespective of its candidate. This is mainly because it could weaken the BJP’s anti Congress plank ahead of the Assembly elections in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhy Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Delhi.
“We are not interested in the vice-president’s post throgh a deal,” a BJP leader clarified.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s emissary defence minister A.K. Antony on Sunday praised DMK chief M Karunanidhi after meeting him in Chennai.
Mr Antony said that Mr Karunanidhi is one of the senior most leaders in the country and “we always value his advice.” Mrs Gandhi is expected to talk to Ms Banerjee on May 4.
