Prashob sent to police custody
First accused Prashob, the second officer of ship Prabhu Daya that was involved in the mid-sea mishap that killed five fishermen on March 1, was sent to police custody for four days on Monday.
The order was issued by Ambalappuzha first class judicial magistrate V. Udhayakumar while considering a request from the police's special investigation team (SIT).
According to Ambalappuzha circle inspector and SIT member P.V. Baby, the questioning so far was done at an individual level.
The questioning of all the accused together might help the police get vital clues relating to the incident in which the ship is believed to have hit the fishing vessel Don 1.
Investigations are also progressing in respect of the allegation that Prashob had been thrown off the ship by someone in the ship. Second accused Mayur, and third accused GC Pereira are currently in police custody.
The SIT has not received any clue yet on the alleged incident in which Prashob was thrown off the ship.
“The investigation is in progress, and we are trying to identify as to who threw Prashob off the ship, if it was not a fall", Baby told DC. The court sent Prashob to judicial custody for 14 days on Friday.
