Pranab: Mamata to attend session
Railway minister and Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee would attend the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said on Saturday. “I hope that she will recover soon and will attend the last leg of the monsoon session,” he said. Mr Mukherjee who flew down to the city to see an ailing Ms Banerjee, was speaking after his meeting with her at her Kalighat home.
Claiming that the sole purpose of his visit was to inquire about her health, Mr Mukherjee said: “Some newspapers and television channels have said that I had been sent by the high command or the Prime Minister. This is baseless. I have come on my personal initiative and not any body’s orders,” he added.
He also voiced his displeasure over reports that he had come to chastise the railway minister for her pro-Maoist speech at Lalgarh. “She is unwell. The Prime Minister is concerned,” he added. Ms Banerjee who suffered mild chest injury after a truck hit a security personnel’s car in her convoy while she was returning from Lalgarh on Monday, has been resting at home. She has not been able to attend the Parliament which had been rocked by Lalgarh rally issue.
The BJP and the Left have accused her of organising the rally with the help of the Maoists and their frontal organisation PCPA.
