Power tariff in Delhi hiked 5%
Already reeling under price rise, Delhiites will now have to shell out five per cent more for electricity consumption, after the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) hiked the power tariff on Friday. The revised rates will be applicable from August 1, 2013. A new slab of 401-800 units has also been introduced.
According to the revised rates, charges for 0-200 units slab will be `3.90 per unit instead of current `3.70, `5.80 per unit for the slab of 201-400 units against the current `5.50, `6.80 per unit for the slab of 400-800 units against the current `6.50 and `7 per unit will be charged for more than 800 units.
However, with the upcoming Assembly elections in mind, the city government immediately announced a subsidy of `1.20 on the slab of 0-200 units and 80 paise on the slab of 201-400 units within hours of DERC’s announcement.
