‘Power in all Howrah villages soon’
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that very soon every village in Howrah district will have electricity. “Rural electrification has been a big success story. In Howrah, power has been taken to 99.94 per cent villages. We are confident that very soon we will achieve the 100 per cent figure,” she added.
Ms Banerjee was speaking after chairing an administrative meeting at the Sarat Sadan in Howrah.
She said that 50,000 jobs would be created in the industries that were being set up in the district. Later, addressing a public meeting at Panchla, the chief minister announced a series of development project for the district. “Next month, entire Writers’ Buildings will shift to Howrah. But many development schemes have already been started and some are in the pipeline,” she added. From October 5, the state secretariat building would be housed in the HRBC building in Howrah for the renovation of several centuries-old Writers’ Buildings. Ms Banerjee said on Thursday that permits were being given to 238 buses and 600 to ply between Kolkata and Howrah. The move will improve the administrative infrastructure. She also allotted `15 crores for the upgradation of the Howrah General Hospital.
“We have opened a fair price medicine shop at the Uluberia Hospital,” she announced.
