A day after hardening its stand, the United Action Committee on Monday appeared a little calm and allowed the Jagatsinghpur district administration to resume the land acquisition process for the `52,000-crore steel project.
“The land acquisition process, which remained suspended for two days on Saturday and Sunday, resumed
peacefully today. At least 18 farmers parted with their betel vine plantations today and received their compensation amou-nt,” additional district magistrate (Paradip) Sarojkant Choudhury said. “The UAC decided to extend full cooperation to the government in land acquisition following talks with senior officials, including Jagatsinghpur district collector this morning,” UAC president Anadi Charan Rout said.
