Porn’s back at Soudha, babus do it!

Bengaluru: Pleading ignorance about government employees viewing porn during office hours in Vidhana Soudha, a top official of e-governance department said software filters would soon be upgraded to prevent misuse of internet access.
CEO of e-governance Dr D.S. Ravindran told DC that he learnt about the CBI report on officials viewing porn through reports in the media. Though the government's LAN (local area network) had filters which block access to such sites, they could be bypassed through USB (universal serial bus) connectors or with the help of special software.
He said the government has already started a process to install system-based filters for individual systems. "The person using the computer has to individually login for all activities he or she wants to carry out on the system. They will be compelled to use systems only for official purposes," he added.
He said his department has also suggested that the government circulate the policy of concerning use of computers for official purposes, and act against those misusing systems under the IT Act.
Meanwhile, president of Karnataka Government Employees Association Byrappa said “We don't know the technical aspects of blocking such (porn) sites. The government has to do it. If any employee is found viewing these sites, he has to be punished and the Association will not come to their rescue."
Byrappa said that uneven distribution of work in the state secretariat had resulted in some employees misusing the access to internet.
