Poll costs ceiling to be raised: Moily

Bengaluru, Feb. 13: The Union law minister, Mr Veerappa Moily, said on Sunday that the decision to enhance poll expenses to `40 lakh for a Lok Sabha seat and `16 lakh for an Assembly seat will be taken this week.

The present expense ceiling is `25 lakh and `10 lakh respectively and the national commission to review the working of the Constitution had recommended that they be raised. A comprehensive amendment to usher in electoral reforms will also be prepared in the next four months, Mr Moily added, while speaking at the sixth regional consultation on electoral reforms.
