Police to file case after Navy report
The police will file an offence in connection with the blasts in Navy submarine INS Sindhurakshak only after the completion of the Navy’s internal probe. However, sources said that it is very unlikely that the Navy will rope in the local police to prosecute any culprit, if so.
The city police officials have said that since the incident took place in the Naval area, as per the procedure, the police could only file any offence or report once the Navy gives its report regarding the same. “When any incident takes place in the naval area, first the Navy police or their own investigators conduct a thorough probe and then if need arises, they intimate us and we accordingly lodge an offence based on the findings of their investigation,” said senior inspector of Colaba police station Vinod Sawant. “However, in connection with the submarine Sindhurakshak blast tragedy, it is very unlikely that the Navy will rope in local police as the matter is being investigated at the national level,” said another police official.
