PM should not be under Lokpal: Rahul
Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the Prime Minister should not be brought under the purview of the Lokpal since it would get him constantly engaged with the statutory authority, denying him the opportunity to sincerely discharge his responsibilities.
“The Lokpal is fundamental…y very important. However, if you impose it on the Prime Minister while he is in office, you open him up to constant engagement unhealthy for the leadership of the country. In my personal view, the Prime Minister must come under the Lokpal purview the day he leaves the office,” Mr Gandhi said while addressing a press conference here.
Observing that “the proposed Lokpal Bill prescribed treatment of the disease after it affects,” the Congress leader said “We are building a system that will take care of the ailment before it strikes.”
On terrorism, the Congress MP said that at least 99 per cent of the terror attacks had been stopped in the country. “At least 99 per cent terror attacks had been stopped. Thanks to the various measures, including improved intelligence,” he said, adding, “It is very difficult to stop any single terrorist attack.” Meanwhile, UP chief minister Mayawati had termed as “irresponsible” the remark made by Mr Gandhi.
