PM must sack Maran, says Jaya
Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday demanded the resignation of DMK leader and Union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran following charges that his family-owned Sun TV Network was a beneficiary of pay-offs by a Malaysian telecom company which benefited from equity sold by Aircel.
“Maran should quit and face legal proceedings. I am quite sure the Prime Minister would know what has to be done and I am sure he would do it. The PM should ask for Maran’s resignation from the Cabinet. I am sure the PM will do it, if he has not already done it,” Ms Jayalalithaa told reporters at the secretariat on Wednesday.
Two DMK leaders, former Union telecom minister A. Raja and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi, are already in Tihar jail in connection with the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam.
Ever since the controversy revolving around Mr Maran has broke, the DMK has maintained a studied silence while its ally, the Congress, washed its hands off saying Mr Maran will be in a better position to defend himself.
