PM to give `1 lakh to victim
Top leaders, including President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and home minister P. Chidambram on Saturday expressed shock and condoled the death of Sabarimala pilgrims in a stampede in Kerala’s Idukki district.
The Prime Minister has also announced a compensation of `1 lakh each to the kin of those killed.
Ms Patil, in a letter to the Kerala chief minister and the governor, expressed her grief over the tragedy and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured in the incident that took place on Friday.
The Prime Minister expressed condolence to the bereaved families and spoke to Kerala chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan about the tragedy, a PMO release said.
Mr Chidambram, while expressing his grief over the incident, said, “I am shocked and grieved.”

Gogoi faces pressure to resign

Jan. 15: rights activists cutting across party line has demanded resignation of Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi accusing him of patronising the corruptions.
Displaying the copy of this newspaper, the noted RTI activist and general secretary of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti told reporters, “The CAG report published by this newspaper has exposed the rampant corruption and misappropriation of the government fund by the Assam government led by chief minister Tarun Gogoi.”
