PM to be in Muzaffarnagar tomorrow
In a bid to take on the spot assessment of the communal riots, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. The area witnessed deadly communal riots about a week ago in which a number of people have lost their lives.
The Prime Minister during his visit will take stock of the situation, sources said. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is expected to be in Muzaffarnagar to apprise Prime Minister of the steps taken by the local administration to control the situation. The Prime Minister is also likely to visit hospitals where the injured are admitted.
Dr Singh had condemned the violence and expressed his deep anguish over the loss of lives. The PM had spoken to UP chief minister and had assured all required help from the Centre in dealing with the situation. He has also sanctioned `2 lakh each for the next of kin of those killed and `50,000 each for the seriously injured in the clashes from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
