PM, Advani wish Jaya on her 64th birthday
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, Governor K. Rosaiah and BJP leader L.K. Advani were among the celebrities who wished chief minister J. Jayalalithaa as she turned 64 on Friday.
Her AIADMK cadres celebrated the birthday in style by planting saplings, conducting free marriages and doling out freebies to people.
While Speaker D. Jayakumar gifted gold rings to babies born in a hospital on Friday, Power minister Natham R. Viswanathan presided over 64 free marriages conducted in Dindigul.
The party premises at Royapettah wore a festive look as cadres and leaders cut a 64-kg cake and distributed it to people.
A souvenir was also released on the occasion. Blood donation camp and anna dhanams were held at various places and temples across the state. Several cadres offered pujas for the ‘well-being of the chief minister.’
On Thursday, Ms Jayalalithaa had inaugurated the scheme of planting 64 lakh saplings across the state.
The AIADMK advocates wing celebrated the birthday inside the Madras high court complex. AIADMK legal wing president V.S. Sethuraman, secretary P.H. Manoj Pandian and advocates S. Diwakar, M. Gopinathan and C. Thirumaran distributed one hundred law books to young laywers, besides distributing free saree and dhoti and 1,000 food packets to the public.
