People should exercise right to reject: Bedi
People should exercise their “Right to Reject” and make use of the provision 49(O) of People’s Representative Act in the 2014 general elections if they find all the prospective candidates are corrupt.
“Since there’s no button in the EVM machine to reject all nominees, the voter should go to the presiding officer and ask him to make an entry of his name in the register and count his vote as well,” said former IPS officer Kiran Bedi.
She also gave the call to make CBI an independent entity without being politically controlled. “The whole agenda of Jan Lokpal is to free CBI, which would see hundreds of legislators and white collar offenders behind the bars for corruption. There’s so much of corruption here because white collar offences aren’t treated as seriously as murder or other criminal offences in India. There’s also an urgent need for a fast track court to dispose off pending cases of corrupt legislators within six months,” she said. Team Anna members including Dr Kiran Bedi, Mr Gopal Rai and Mr Ram Kumar Tiwari addressed a gathering of around 2,000 people at Wesley College grounds on Wednesday organised by the public forum of India Against Corruption.
Activist Gopal Rai informed that between July 8 and 15, Sampark Jatra would take place in AP where volunteers would raise awareness among villagers. “From July 25, an indefinite relay hunger strike would commence at Jantar Mantar, Delhi. The fight against corruption has gained momentum and we will not stop till we get the Jan Lokpal Bill passed. There are 162 MPs in Lok Sabha and 39 in Rajya Sabha, who are facing corruption and some form of criminal charges. The government coolly went back on its promise for the bill,” he said.
