PC reviews security in N-E states
Union home minister P. Chidambaram reviewed the security scenario in Assam and Mizoram during a day-long visit to the two Northeastern state on Tuesday.
Immediately after his meeting the unified command of security forces and the Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, Mr Chidambaram told reporters, “There had been d
ramatic improvement in the law and order scenario the state as we have been able to apprehend top leaders of outlawed Ulfa, NDFB and DHD(J).” He, however, clarified that counter-insurgency operations will continue in the state. “Insurgency has no place and the counter-insurgency operations will continue till the insurgents give up violence,” he said, adding that this was the policy of the government.
He also made it clear that forces have been entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining the law and order whereas Assam chief minister has been advised to decide the road map to take the political process forward for resolving the insurgency scenario.
