‘Parties may name anybody’

Taking a dig at the BJP over its move to project Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate, home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Wednesday also declared that the Congress party has firmed up its choice in Rahul Gandhi.
Commenting on the possibility of the BJP declaring Mr Modi as its prime ministerial candidate, Mr Shinde said political parties could declare any “Tom, Dick or Harry” as their leader. He went on to say that any small or big political party can declare their prime ministerial candidate ahead of the 2014 general elections.
“Koi bhi Ramu, Shamu aur Damu ka nam le sakte hain (Anyone can name any Tom, Dick or Harry),” he told reporters here when asked to comment on BJP’s move to declare the Gujarat strongman as its prime ministerial candidate. “But we (Congress) have already declared that Rahul Gandhi is our leader,” he said. After a go-ahead from RSS on making Mr Modi the prime ministerial candidate, the BJP has started the exercise of finalising a date for holding a meeting of its parliamentary board.

LeT coins new code for Modi
Bala Chauhan
Bengaluru, Sept. 11

Has the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) changed its code word — Machchli5 — for Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, who is said to be topmost on their hit list? Counter terrorism experts in the IB and the National Investigation Agency, grilling key terror accused and co-founder of Indian Mujahideen Ahmed Sidibapa alias Yasin Bhatkal, have reportedly questioned him on “Machchli5” — the LeT’s code word for Mr Modi, first heard in a conversation intercepted by the IB in 2004 between LeT’s Pakistani handler Muzzamil and Jishan Johar.
The latter was killed in an encounter with Ishrat Jahan and Javed Sheikh in 2004.
Yasin is reportedly behind the July 2008 serial blasts in Ahmedabad, which killed 56 people and injured 242.
He has also confessed about his involvement in almost all terror attacks since 2008 including the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
