Parliament session may be extended a few days
The government is planning to extend Parliament’s ongoing Winter Session by a few days to pass the Lokpal Bill, informed sources said.
While the session is due to end on December 22 as of now, the sources said the two Houses may sit a day longer this week, December 23; then reconvene for three more days on December 27 after a short Christmas weekend break, and sit till December 29.
The Congress issued a three-line whip directing its MPs to be present and vote on government bills from December 19 to 22. The government expects to bring a revised Lokpal Bill incorporating 60 amendments following the standing committee report and last week’s all-party meeting. While the government doesn’t want to be seen delaying the bill due to pressure from civil society, the UPA also does not want the bill passed in a hurry.
