Parliament adjourned again over JPC call
New Delhi: Both houses of parliament were on Friday adjourned till noon as opposition MPs persisted with their demand for a joint parliamentary committee to probe the 2G spectrum allotment scam.
Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till noon as soon as they met for the day.
Opposition members, including the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and its allies, the Left parties, Samajwadi Party and AIADMK shouted slogans in both the houses for a JPC and a clarification from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the scam.
The issue again rocked parliament as the opposition insisted on a JPc probe into improper allocation of 2G frequencies to telecom companies by Raja that is estimated to have cost the exchequer Rs.176,000 crore (Rs.1.76 trillion/approx $39 billion).
This is the sixth day of adjournments in parliament. Practically no business has been transacted in the six days of the ongoing winter session that began on November 9.
However, amid protests, the government tabled the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the 2G spectrum allotment in both the houses on Tuesday.
Ahead of the CAG report, communications minister A Raja resigned on Sunday night. The CAG report indicted Raja and said he functioned 'arbitrarily', causing a huge revenue loss to the public exchequer.
