Parcelled woman's body cremated in Ajmer
The body of an unidentified girl, parcelled from Delhi to Madanganj-Kishangarh town here last week, was cremated here today, police said.
"After postmortem by a medical board, the body was cremated. Her identity could not be established despite efforts," the police said.
The body was parcelled by Milap Transport Roadlines from Lahori Gate to its branch in Kishangarh in Ajmer by an unidentified person. The sender has identified himself as 'B' and it has to be received by himself.
A Rajasthan Police team is camping for investigations while Delhi Police is assisting them.
The body was discovered by workers of the transportation company on April 8 in their Ajmer office after foul smell started emanating from the parcel.
Police remain clueless about her identity even as an another woman, who had gone missing and whom her family suspected to be the victim, was traced.
More families approached police following media reports about the woman's body. However, nobody has been able to identify her so far, a senior police official said.
Investigators believe that the woman, aged around 25 years, was tortured before being murdered.
"She bore burn injuries and there were stab wounds on her body. We are yet to identify her," the official said.
A family from Jalandhar which was looking for their 'missing' daughter approached police but could not identify the victim, the official said, adding police later traced their daughter in Samalkha in Haryana's Sonepat last night along with her friend.
The family had alleged that she was murdered by her in-laws and her body disposed of.
"We traced her last night. She had left her in-laws house on March 12. She was staying with her friend whom she knew even before her marriage. Both of them hail from Outer Delhi's Rohini. Her friend is a businnessman. She was not happy with her marriage and so decided to leave and live with her friend," the official said.
Police are now planning to go for DNA test to ascertain the identity of the woman.
Investigators, meanwhile, stepped up their efforts to identify the person who booked the parcel to Ajmer. Police said they were trying to locate the rickshaw puller who brought the body to the parcel office.
"We are trying to draw a sketch of the rickshaw puller with the help of parcel office staff. If we can locate him, it will be of great help in solving the case," the official said.
"The transportation company was negligent in handling the parcel. They have not entered the name of the sender and receiver properly in its register," the official said.
The official said the CCTV footage of the transport company showed a blurred image of a rickshaw puller accompanied by another man bringing a big packet to the office.
The person who booked the parcel told the staff that he would collect it and pay the Rs 185 fee in Ajmer.
