Paramilitary forces to ensure peace: Dinesh Reddy
Vijayawada: DGP V. Dinesh Reddy on Tuesday said that central paramilitary forces would be deployed to ensure smooth conduct of panchayat elections in the state.
The DGP was speaking to the media after a review meeting with police officials of Guntur and Eluru ranges here.
Reddy said that the presence of paramilitary forces and local police would ensure a peaceful atmosphere is created and scuttle any chance of clashes in hypersensitive villages.
He said the police force would provide protection to weaker sections so that they could exercise their franchise fearlessly without yielding to the pressure from upper caste leaders.
The DGP added that special attention would be paid during the withdrawal of nominations as there was a chance that pressure would be brought upon weaker sections to withdraw their nominations. The DGP said five teams would be formed with officials of various departments to close the belt shops during the elections.
