Panel for ‘constitutional’ Lokpal, rift on PM issue

The parliamentary standing committee finalising the Lokpal Bill will circulate a draft report to members in a few days despite sharp differences on the contentious issue of the Prime Minister’s inclusion within its ambit.

But a “broad consensus” appears to have emerged on most issues, including vesting the Lokpal with constitutional status. The report also endorses the move to amend the Constitution to allow setting up of Lokayuktas in states.
