Pakistani spy arrested in Punjab

A man alleged to be an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent from Pakistan has been arrested in this Punjab city on charges of spying, police here said on Tuesday.

Saheem Siddique alias Ahmed Mohammad was arrested from Focal Point area on Monday by a special team of Punjab police.

"We got an intelligence input that a Pakistani spy was living here and sending sensitive information of defence locations to Pakistan. Saheem came to India around three years back and stayed at various places before coming to Ludhiana," a police official said.

"Saheem originally hails from Faizalabad in Pakistan. He was teaching Urdu to children here. We have seized some handmade maps of military bases, two SIM cards, two mobile phones and some other documents from him. His interrogation is on and we are trying to ascertain his links with other people in the state," the police official said.

The police official said Saheem has confessed to his links with the ISI. "He used to call at various control rooms, posing as a senior defence officer, to gather information about military establishments."

This is the fourth arrest of a Pakistani spy from this region over the last two months.

Another Pakistani spy, Razaullah, was arrested on August 2 from the border district of Ferozepur. He was staying in Punjab for many months.

In July, two Pakistani spies were arrested from Ludhiana and Chandigarh.

Nizam Baksh was held from Ludhiana city July 22. Hand-made maps and photographs of different army stations, air force stations, installations, four mobile phones and many other crucial documents related to defence were recovered from his possession.

Kashif Ali, who was nabbed from Chandigarh, was living there in a rented accommodation for over two years.
