Pakistan, Indian troops exchange fire
Another incident of ceasefire violation was reported from the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan resorting to unprovoked heavy firing, a defence spokesperson said on Thursday, adding that there was retaliatory fire from the Indian side.
There was heavy fire from the Pakistan side past midnight on the Indian post Langoor near Poonch town, about 250 km northwest of here. The LoC divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
"Light and heavy machine guns were used in the firing," said the defence spokesperson.
The Indian side retaliated to the fire which went on for about an hour.
"There is no loss of life or injury reported," the spokesperson added.
India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire along the frontier in November 2003. The defence ministry has stated that there are over 200 cases of ceasefire violations from 2006 till now.
