Pacheco still in Goa: Supporters
Junior NCP party members and the MLA’s supporters rallied around former Goa tourism minister Mr Mickky Pacheco on Saturday and said that he had not left Goa. “If he was afraid, he could have left the country that day itself. He has too much respect for the law. If the case is handed over to the CBI, he will present himself immediately. We do not trust the Goa police. They will not probe the case impartially,” said a local from Betalbatim, Mr Pacheco’s constituency.
Meanwhile, Mr Pacheco’s live-in girlfriend, Ms Viola Fernandes, was interrogated by the crime branch on Saturday in connection with the case of Sonia Torrado’s suicide in which Mr Pacheco is the prime suspect. The crime branch also issued “lookout” notices for Mr Pacheco’s right-hand man Lyndon Monteiro, who has been named a co-accused in the case. Both Mr Pacheco and Mr Monteiro are absconding. The anticipatory bail pleas of both accused were rejected by a sessions court and they have applied for the same to the high court. Mr Monteiro’s bail plea will be heard on Monday.
Mr Pacheco’s supporters alleged the current ordeal of Mr Pacheco was due to the Congress that was allegedly taking revenge on him for insisting that the ongoing case of drug mafia-police nexus be probed by the CBI.
The crime branch had raided Mr Pacheco’s office-cum-residence on Friday and confiscated eight computers. The contents of the computers are still not known.
