Pacheco moves HC for bail
Tainted NCP MLA and former Goa tourism minister Mickky Pacheco moved the Panaji bench of the Bombay high court on Monday afternoon for anticipatory bail after his initial plea was rejected by a district session court last week.
Mr Pacheco’s Man Friday and his former officer on special duty Lyndon Montero, on the other hand, withdrew his anticipatory bail plea on Monday evening after the high court ordered that he had to be present during the hearing on June 17th. It is expected that Mr Pacheco, too, will be asked by the court to be present when his plea comes up for hearing.
It is over a week now that Mr Pacheco and Mr Monteiro are absconding. Along with the former minister, Mr Monteiro has been named co-accused in the case of the mysterious death of Nadia Torrado, who died after consuming rat poison on May 30.
The Goa Crime Branch, meanwhile, interrogated Mr Pacheco’s live-in girlfriend, Ms Viola Fernandes, over the weekend and raided various places in the state for Mr Pacheco fruitlessly.
According to sources, Ms Fernandes told the police that she had gone to Mumbai on a shopping trip on the day of the incident and that Mr Pacheco had come to drop her to the airport. She told reporters later that she had complete confidence that Mr Pacheco was innocent.
