P. Chidambaram faces trial in LS election case
The Madurai Bench of Madras high court on Thursday rejected Home Minister P. Chidambaram's plea to remove a petition filed by AIADMK leader R.S. Raja Kannappan's challenging the former's election from the Sivaganga constituency during the May 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
Kannappan alleges that Chidambaram's win during the polls was the result of a rigged voting system. He claims votes were transferred to Chidambaram's name during the final rounds of counting.
Kannappan lost narrowly securing 3,30,994 votes as against 3,34,348 by Chidambaram - losing by a margin of 3,354 votes.
