‘Our goal is to end hunger’
Asserting that the Congress’ aim was to completely eradicate “hunger and malnutrition”, party chief Sonia Gandhi on Monday urged all parties to forget their differences and support the Food Security Bill to send out a “big message” on India’s capabilities.
Rejecting questions raised by some on whether the nation had enough resources to implement the landmark measure, she said: “It is time to send out a big message that India can take responsibility of ensuring food security for all Indians... Our goal is to wipe out hunger and malnutrition all over the country.”
Saying this was a “historic opportunity”, she added: “The question is not whether we have enough resources or whether it would benefit farmers or not... We have to arrange resources for it. We have to do it.”
