Orissa offers `1,700cr rabi cultivation loan
The Odisha government has decided to provide `1,700-crore crop loan to farmers in the state for rabi cultivation. This was announced by chief minister Naveen Patnaik here at the state secretariat on Saturday evening.
Mr Patnaik, who reviewed the drought situation at a high-level meeting, asked officials to immediately repair and renovate lift-irrigation points which are currently lying defunct.
According to the review, rabi cultivation will be taken up in 31.47 lakh hectares of land.
It was decided that crop loan would be extended through cooperative societies to at least 15,900 farmers this year. Last year, at least 13,000 farmers had availed cooperative loans.

Uid to inform residents via emails, texts

In a bid to substantially reduce the time lag in delivering Unique Identity (UID) numbers to prospective Aadhaar cards, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UDAI) has decided to inform residents about their numbers through emails and SMSs before sending it by post.
UIDAI’s deputy director-general Kumar Alok informed that they were going to “introduce a system next month through which all UID numbers would be communicated through SMSs and emails” to the concerned persons before they get their Aadhaar cards by post.
