Orissa Cong ‘prays’ for end to BJD rule
After having exhausted their energy in shouting slogans, jumping and thumping inside Orissa Legislative Assembly in the last five days, the Opposition Congress on Monday preferred to take recourse to spiritual path to embarrass the ruling BJD in the land acquisition deal for Vedanta University project at Puri. At least 14 MLAs of the
party led by Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh went to the Lord Jagannath temple and offered prayers to the deity seeking his blessings for early end of chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s rule.
“We had come to Puri to pray for early end of the BJD rule in Orisssa. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik, without duly consulting the Jagannath Temple administration and local officials, has sold out the deity’s land to Anil Agarwal Foundation managed by the Vedanta Resources. We told the God to save his own property and the state as well from the hands of Naveen Patnaik,” Mr Singh said.
Opposition chief whip Prasad Harichandan, who was also a part of the team, said since the BJD did not agree to act in accordance with the recent direction Orissa high court, the Congress had no other option than “submitting its grievance in the court of Lord Jagannath.”
