Orissa begins culling of poultry birds

The Orissa government on Thursday began culling of poultry birds at Kerang, near Khurda town, after detection of bird flu from the region.
At least 80 trained veterinarians were engaged in culling of over 24,000 poultry birds in the village. Soon after the culling, the birds were burnt so as to prevent spread the disease. Khurda district collector Roopa Mishra said the culling operation was started early morning and was likely to continue for a few days.
“After an awareness drive in and around the village and full preparation, we have started the culling operation which will likely continue for a few days,” Ms Mishra said.
