Opposition parties stage walkout in TN Assembly
Opposition parties in the Tamil Nadu Assembly led by AIADMK on Saturday staged a walkout after Speaker R. Avudiyappan refused permission to take up some issues.
As soon as the question hour started, deputy leader of the AIADMK legislature O. Pannerselvam rose and started reading out a statement on some issues.
However, law minister Duraimurugan intervened and said issues cannnot be taken up during question hour, adding, Speaker's permission in this regard would be unprecedented.
When the Speaker allowed Pannerselvam to continue, he made some remarks which drew strong reactions and noisy protests from the ruling DMK.
The Speaker then said that he would not allow the opposition to proceed following which AIADMK members raised slogans against the Speaker and staged a walkout. They were accompanied by allies MDMK and the Left parties.
Meanwhile, the Speaker expunged all the remarks made by Pannerselvam and proceeded with the question hour.
