Opp. calls for PM statement
The demand for the Prime Minister’s statement over the coal files issue was raised in the Upper House by members from the BJP, CPI-M, AIADMK and other parties. A similar demand was voiced in the Lok Sabha by the BJP, CPI, CPI-M, JD (U), SP, and AIADMK.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj demanded that the government assure the House that the PM would be making a statement on this important matter. Her views were echoed by Gurudas Dasgupta of the CPI, M. Thambidurai of the AIADMK and the speakers of other parties. In the Rajya Sabha, Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley demanded that as the PM was present in the House, he should reply. He said, “Coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal made a statement in the house but we are not satisfied. The Prime Minister should give a statement on the coal issue.” Mr Rajeev Shukla’s statement before the protesting Opposition members came along with an appeal that the House be allowed to conduct business.
