Oommen Chandy dares opposition on solar scam issue
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday dared the Opposition to come forward and examine the CCTV footage of his office in connection with the solar fraud allegations instead of making futile attempts to topple the democratically elected government.
Responding to questions on the solar scam after the cabinet meeting, Chandy said that he had invited the Opposition to be part of the expert panel to examine the footage but they ran away.
“It was the best opportunity for them to catch me red handed. These CCTV cameras were installed in 2009 when the LDF was in power. Even though the storage capacity of these is for 14 days, there were reports suggesting that recording beyond the specific period can also be retrieved.
If that is the case, the Opposition could have utilised the opportunity to know the facts,” he added.
When asked about Tenny Joppan’s father M.J. Joppan’s charge that his son was innocent and that the actual culprits were roaming free, the Chief Minister said, “I don’t wish to comment on an issue which is under investigation.” He, however, said the current probe was in the right direction.
“I will resign the moment the party high command asks me to quit. I have been entrusted with this responsibility by the party leadership and I will continue despite the humiliation and false allegations being hurled at me,” he said accusing the Opposition of creating stories to keep the solar fraud case alive.
Chandy flayed the Opposition attempts to topple the government. “In a democracy, majority is what matters and not mere numbers.
Some people are dreaming that the UDF constituents would cross over and the government would fall. The UDF is united and will continue its good work among the people,” he added.
