Oommen Chandy claims 100-day success, plans bigger
After claiming to have successfully executed its 100-day action plan in true 20-20 style, Team UDF captain Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Monday he wanted to play a longer innings — a one-year action plan.
Presenting a progress report of the UDF action plan at a function here, Chandy claimed of the 107 programmes announced by his government, 101 had been successfully implemented.
But he admitted clearance of files in various departments, particularly the Secretariat, was below expectation.
Of the 1.33 lakh pending files we managed to clearly only 49,384 files,” he said. “I am not happy with the result.”
Chandy said all ministers and department heads had been given a deadline of September 30 to clear all files.
The Chief Minister said the 100-day programme had stimulated government machinery. In the next phase, the government intended to launch a mass-contact programme in all 14 districts to get feedback from people directly, he said. The first in the series would be held in Kozhikode on November 5.
Chandy said successful implementation of the 100-day action plan had given confidence to the government to unveil a comprehensive one-year plan. “We will announce a year-long development plan for all departments soon. The plan is part of Vision 2030 aimed at overall development of the State.”
Chandy said Idea Bank 2030 had already received 1,065 suggestions from people from various walks of lives. “Many of the suggestions are practical and aimed at speedy development of the State. Our experts will vet the suggestions and shortlist them for implementation.’’
Chandy said one of the biggest achievements of his government was transparency in governance.
Rice scheme promise not kept
The UDF government has listed the Re1/kg rice scheme as one of its achievements in the first 100 days, but it is yet to keep its promise to provide rice to 32 lakh families on the State BPL list. As of now only 21 lakh BPL families have benefitted.
