Onion tears may not stop for 2 weeks
There is no respite for the consumers reeling under the steep rise in onion prices, which again went up in the range of `70-80. The government is hopeful that the prices will come down by early next month.
The much-awaited supplies of onions from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have not materialised so far, while Union minister of state for food and consumer affairs K.V. Thomas on Tuesday said that the supply from the southern states could begin by the end of this month or early next month.
With no immediate respite in sight, the government on Tuesday asked producing states like Maharashtra to crack down on hoarders.
