One killed, 14 injured in Kashmir clash
One person was killed and 14 others were injured on Saturday as security forces opened fire on stone-pelting protestors who had taken out a funeral procession defying the curfew in Anantnag town of south Kashmir.
With this, the toll in the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir Valley, since June 11, rose to 97.
Thousands of residents of Nathpora in Khanabal and adjoining areas in Anantnag defied curfew after the body of a 10-year-old boy, who was missing since Monday, was recovered from river Jhelum, official sources said.
The residents were carrying the body of the boy, Maroof Ahmad Nath. They raised slogans while a section of the crowd allegedly started throwing stones targeting the security forces, the sources said.
They said the security personnel first lobbed tear smoke shells and then fired shots, resulting in injuries to 15 people. One of the injured persons died later.
